Li Lu has on his hands the blood of victims of Tiananmen Protest in 1989. https://www.hrichina.org/en/content/6117

I was one of the college students protesting at Tiananmen in 1989, like Li Lu. As one of the student leaders objecting to students' retreat from Tiananmen Square before June 4, 1989 that resulted in bloody clashes between riot military guards and Beijing residents, Li Lu needs to address the demand made by the victim families whose family members lost their lives when they went on street to protect students like Li Lu.

Li Lu should tell the truth about why he took no action to stop the upcoming bloodshed. 32 years later, Li Lu remains silent on this matter while profiting enormously from the historic tragedy he almost single handedly caused. It's time for Li Lu to respond to this letter published 10 years ago. The world, especially these Chinese families deserve the truth and compensation.

In the Open Letter Response by Mothers of 8964 Victims published in 2012 https://www.hrichina.org/en/content/6117, Mother Ding Zilin said she was still waiting for answers from the exiled so called student leaders, Chai Ling, Wang Dan and Li Lu, the man behind Chai Ling, about why they refused to retreat from Tiananmen Square with clearing warning of impending crackdown from the government. Instead, those student leaders urged Beijing residents and students to be human shield and to their death before military riot squad so these student leaders could escape eventually to the Western countries to enjoy freedom and capitalism, even by bribing certain Chinese government officials with millions of dollars. Here is the quotes from the letter about her student, Gao Yu who "said that in late May 1989, upon returning to Beijing from a work trip in Shenzhen and despite being ill, she—at the behest of Mr. Hu Jiwei (胡绩伟), a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress—went to Tiananmen Square to try to persuade the students to evacuate and return to school in order to avoid imminent peril. Gao said that, after going through layers of blockades formed by the student demonstrators to maintain order in Tiananmen Square, she found you, Wang Dan (王丹), Wu’erkaixi (吾尔开希) (?), and other leaders of the student movement. She expended a great deal of effort, speaking to you for seven or eight hours before she had convinced you to agree to evacuate the students, and even helped you draft an evacuation announcement before she left. The evacuation ultimately never happened, however, because you backed out and Li Lu (李禄) opposed the idea. Then, because of her “intervention,” Gao Yu was arrested on June 3, before the government unleashed the killing."
